Statistics show that in the first half of 2014, 1,074 Chinese enterprises exported plant extract products, slightly higher than the number of export enterprises in the same period of 2013. Among them, private enterprises made the largest contribution, accounting for 50.4% of exports. It was followed by "three-capital" companies, accounting for 35.4 percent. Chinese plant extract industry has been developed for less than 20 years. Most private plant extract enterprises grow and develop under the condition of lack of "care", and keep growing in response to the challenges of financial "tsunami" one after another.

Under the influence of new medical model, functional or active plant extract products are favored. At present, the plant extract industry is developing faster and faster. It has surpassed the growth rate of the pharmaceutical market and become an independent emerging industry. With the rise of plant extract market in the world, China's plant extract industry will become a new strategic pillar industry in the development of national economy and society.

Plant extract is the main export force of Chinese traditional medicine, accounting for more than 40% of the total export volume of Chinese traditional medicine. Although the plant extract industry is a new industry, it has developed rapidly in the past two decades. Statistics show that the export volume of plant extracts reached 1.13 billion US dollars in 2011, up 47% year on year, and the compound growth rate from 2002 to 2011 reached 21.91%. Plant extracts became the first commodity category to exceed US $1 billion in exports of traditional Chinese medicine.
